Overview

Purpose: Sessions support participants’ in learning to:

  • Identify and appreciate self reliance and its valuable role in managing difficulty (e.g. conflict, bullying)
  • Recognize and distinguish between conflict and bullying
  • Identify emotional states of self and others when in conflict or bullying situations
  • Increase awareness of appropriate attitudes and responses to difficult situations
  • Explore effective strategies for managing conflict and bullying
  • Identify their best personal strategies to manage difficulty
  • Reflect upon a peaceful individual’s effect on the wider community

Approaches:

  1. Guided, reflective observation and meditation on the painting, Awakening. Opportunity for personal reflection and group discussion
  2. “Hands-on” Expressive Arts Activities: Exploring Paper Sculpture Techniques
  3. Story Telling
  4. Mind Mapping

Session 1: Self Reliance: Responding to Challenge Through Exploring Paper Sculpture Techniques

Objective: Participants will:

  • Identify and appreciate the value of Self Reliance, and its significant role in managing difficulty (e.g. conflict, bullying, stress, change, ambiguity)
  • Gain experience in Self Reliance

Session 2: Exploring Conflict and Bullying Through Paper Sculpture Techniques

Objective: Participants will:

  • Recognize and distinguish between conflict and bullying
  • Identify emotional states of self and others when in conflict or bullying situations
  • Increase awareness of appropriate attitudes and responses to difficult situations

Session 3: My Best Strategies for Managing Difficulty: Creating a Bridge from My Difficult Place to My Better Place Through Paper Sculpture

Objective: Participants will:

  • Identify Strategies best suited to them self and their particular challenges
  • Use Paper Sculpture to depict/symbolize their Best Strategy/Strategies by creating a “bridge(s)” from their Difficult Place to their Better Place
